Hampi is a land of rocks. Rocks seem to be all around as if someone spilled a bag of beans. Surrounded by Hills all around, the earlier Kings have made full use of the rocks to create amazing structures, temples, towers etc. The Hampi Bazar near Virupaksha temple looks like the Malls of today and must have been used to trade lots of goods. They have two tiered structure built by just placing stone pillars and large sheets of granite stones on top. The architects of Hampi must have been experts. They also adopted newer technologies like bricks in building some of the temples. Archaeological department is still unearthing many pieces and they are trying to solve the zigsaw puzzle. Our two day trip to Hamp helped us produce many pictures. Here are a few.
